Mike Simmonds (Trust Appointed )
For 30 years Mike Simmonds has engaged in education leadership, serving as a school governor across three counties and involved in supporting schools, governors and headteachers. During that time he has chaired the governing body of three schools. Currently he is Chair of the Directors of a Multi- Academy Trust which currently includes four schools. He also chairs two Local Hubs for the Diocese of Chelmsford Vine Schools Trust and a Regional Hub for the Diocese of St Albans MAT as well as an Interim Executive Board of another school. Mike is a motivational speaker/trainer for conferences/CPD, and is a governance consultant for the Dioceses of Chelmsford and St Albans and both their multi Academy Trusts and is part of the delivery team of the Liverpool Hope University governance training programme. Mike is author of Church School Governance published by Grove Books. He also coaches teams using StrengthFinder and facilitates training in What if Learning.
Tosca Boothman (Trust Appointed)
Tosca Boothman has worked across schools in Southend, Essex and Hertfordshire providing independent advice and support. She has been a Governor for 13 years at a large Infants School (which acquired academy status in August 2011), four of which were as COG. Wealth of experience serving on several IEBs across Essex. Vice Chair of Essex School Governors’ Association and a member of the South Essex Children’s Partnership Board. Director/Trustee of an Academy Trust since its inception in 2014. The MAT is currently responsible for four primary schools in Mid/South Essex.
Ruth Bird (Trust Appointed )
Ruth has 30 years of experience as a school governor of both primary and secondary education. With 13 years as Chair of Directors of a secondary MAT. She is also, currently, Chair of Essex School Governance Association (ESGA).
Thus, she has significant in all aspects of governance – including senior appointments, performance and financial management, curriculum development and behaviour management. Ruth has served on eight Interim Executive Boards (IEB) in Harlow, Basildon and Witham. Ruth is also a member of Schools Forum.
Misha Roughly (Parent Governor )
I have three children, and my eldest attends St. Cedds. I run a bookkeeping and payroll company in Burnham on Crouch which I started up in 2012. I am an Associate of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers, and I co-run a Local Business Clinic once a month in Burnham which gives free business advice to anyone who needs it. I am also the treasurer for the Burnham Chamber of Commerce. When I have a minute I like baking and knitting.
Sarah Lane Cawte
Sarah relocated to Burnham-on-Crouch in 2017, from Wiltshire, where she served as a Local Authority Governor of a community primary school for 7 years. At the beginning of her career she taught in both secondary and primary schools, but then moved into the charity sector, currently working as Education Officer for the Free Churches Group. Much of Sarah’s current work involves engaging with Government policy in education, and she is an active member of the Department for Education’s Faith Providers Group, and of the Religious Education Council for England and Wales, for which she chairs the Governance Committee. She has a particular interest in Religious Education and Collective Worship, and is a member of Essex SACRE (Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education), having been Chair of Swindon SACRE for a number of years.

After working for 20 years in London developing Apprenticeship programmes across the UK in different areas of finance such as Banking, Insurance, Accountancy and Investments, I received a call to ministry. I studied a degree in Theology with St. Mellitus College and then served a four year Curacy in Leigh on Sea. During my time in Leigh on Sea, I also studied an MA in Theology, Ministry & Mission. Education is close to my heart and I believe is transformational, so I am keen to work in this role within school and communities.
The Diocese of Chelmsford Vine Schools Trust
The ultimate accountability for Southminster C of E Primary School lies with the Board of the Trust. Through the scheme of delegation most of the responsibilities are delegated to a Local Governing Body appointed by the Trust.
